An IP66 rating means a unit is sealed against dust and powerful water jets during normal operation — it isn't a reason to skip basic maintenance. Standing water around a base, damaged seals, or prolonged submersion beyond what the rating covers can still cause problems over time.
Avoid setting a tower's base directly in standing water where avoidable, even on IP-rated equipment — water pooling around a base over an extended period is a different exposure than a rain shower the unit is rated for. Wipe down connection points before opening any compartment to avoid introducing water directly into a battery bay.
Store units and battery packs in a dry area between deployments rather than leaving them exposed on-site when not in use — this matters more for battery longevity (see our battery lifecycle guide) than for the sealed light unit itself, which is built for outdoor exposure.
