IP ratings come from IEC 60529 (adopted in India as IS/IEC 60529), and the two digits after "IP" each mean something specific. The first digit rates protection against solid particles, from 0 (no protection) up to 6 (fully dust-tight). The second digit rates protection against water, from 0 up to 9K for high-pressure jets. IP66 means fully dust-tight and protected against powerful water jets from any direction — IP65 protects against dust and water jets but with a slightly lower water-ingress threshold than IP66. Neither digit is a vague marketing claim; both correspond to defined lab tests.
"Weatherproof" and "rugged" aren't standardised terms — any manufacturer can use them. An IP rating is testable and comparable across manufacturers, which is why it's worth checking the actual IP figure on a spec sheet rather than relying on descriptive language alone when comparing equipment.
Wind resistance ratings on tall mast equipment indicate the wind conditions a tower is certified stable in when correctly deployed — typically with legs or outriggers fully extended and locked. This matters most for taller masts, open sites, and locations near open water where sustained wind exposure is higher than a sheltered inland site.
