"How many lumens do I need" is usually the wrong first question — the right one is how many lumens you need *where*, since a single number rarely covers a whole site. Here's a practical way to work it out before you specify equipment.
A lumen figure tells you a light's total output, not how bright a specific work area will actually be — that depends on distance, mounting height, and how many square metres you're trying to cover. A 65,000-lumen tower mounted too far from the work area can feel dimmer than a 14,000-lumen unit positioned correctly. Coverage area matters as much as raw output.
General site movement and access routes need less intensity than active work zones — excavation, concrete pours, and steel erection benefit from higher, more concentrated output where the crew is actually working. Rather than lighting an entire laydown yard uniformly, most sites get better results concentrating higher-output towers on active work fronts and using compact units for general access and safety lighting elsewhere.
